Search for Three Directors for New Program to Accelerate AP Achievement in Alabama Schools

A+ College Ready a new division of the A+ Education Foundation, is now affiliated with the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) as one of seven states selected to replicate a successful model for dramatically increasing both student participation and achievement in Advanced Placement (AP) courses in math, science and English (MSE).  The model is based on extensive teacher training and incentives for students and teachers.  Three highly qualified Directors (one in each subject area) are being sought to help lead the implementation of the model in Alabama.  NMSI has committed $13.2 million over six years pending year-to-year progress, with A+ College Ready providing accelerating levels of matching funds. High schools in Jefferson County and Montgomery County are eligible to apply for participation in the early start-up years, with expansion to other schools planned.. Participating teachers/schools also will be supported by local Lead Teachers whom these three Directors will mentor as needed.

The Math, Science, and English Directors must be able to establish significant credibility within the state’s AP teacher community, and must have demonstrated relevant experience to manage the growth expected with this exciting new opportunity for Alabama students and teachers.  Each Director must be willing to do what it takes for success, manage multiple priorities, actively contribute to all aspects of program implementation and growth, and be entrepreneurial and nimble-minded in finding solutions for challenges facing each participating school.  Directors will be expected to travel approximately fifty percent of the time. Directors report to the A+ College Ready President and the Project Director. While these are three (3) full-time positions with A+ College Ready, expressions of interest in part-time or contractual work during the 07/08 Academic Year will be entertained from qualified candidates.
